Just Don't Call It A Pivot To Substack...
It's not! Really! OK maybe it is, but just for a little while
Taking a break from our scheduled programming to let you guys in on my future plans for both my podcast and my Substack newsletter.
I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to my content, how I want to make and distribute it, and what would work out best for everyone -- if you weren’t aware I also have a podcast under the Jen the Libertarian name that I’ve been doing for almost three years now. While I enjoy making the podcast each week, it is a lot of work. Recording a podcast is also not an activity that can’t be done any place I happen to be; my recording setup is in my home, but my home is not a place I’m at most hours of the day and is shared with another podcaster (yes my marriage is every bit as obnoxious as you’d think).
In addition to all that, I’ve found that I enjoy writing more than recording. Since I started writing regularly again, both for my Substack and for other platforms, I’ve remembered how much I enjoy the writing process.
I told you all that to tell you this -- I’m going to be taking a step back from podcasting until I figure out how I want to go forward with podcast content creation. This isn’t a forever goodbye, just a break to make some decisions about what I want that content to look like when I go back to recording. As of right now, I’m thinking fewer episodes but switching over to an interview format but I’m open to suggestions from you as to what you’d like to hear on the pod.
On the bright side, I plan to spend a little more time here on Substack! Currently, I’m trying to decide how I want to handle the news stories I cover in my weekly roundup episodes. What do you guys think would be better -- smaller posts throughout the week or one larger end-of-the-week post? I’m also thinking about how to integrate that content with the subscription model I want to implement. I’d like to start using the discussion thread feature on Substack too, it looks like a really cool feature that could be a lot of fun for everyone. Again, open to suggestions from you guys as to how you’d like to see that implemented as far as discussion topics, scheduling, etc.
I don’t have any of this set in stone yet, but I like to let everyone know what I’m thinking as far as content creation goes so that you know what to expect. And of course, I’ll still be Terminally Online over on Twitter and occasionally on Instagram.
Who knows, maybe after a few weeks away from the mic I’ll miss the grind and want to go back. Or maybe everyone will really like this new setup better than the weekly solo podcast so I’ll stay here. Either way, I’m excited to be trying out some new ideas; hopefully, you guys will be too.
